HELATH INSURANCE
All students participating in an exchange program at ESG UQAM must be covered by a medical insurance plan. To do this, there are only two possibilities:
1. Be covered by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (RAMQ)
The Quebec government has signed insurance agreements with Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Romania and Sweden. These agreements allow students, holders of a certificate of entitlement to social security in their country, to benefit from an exemption from health insurance costs after having demonstrated to the university authorities that they their RAMQ membership. The steps required to obtain the RAMQ card can be found on the ESG website (international section), under the heading International students and the Prepare your exchange section. Finally, it is important to note that the deadlines for submitting an insurance fee waiver request are October 15 (fall term) and February 25 (winter term).
2. Be covered by the compulsory group insurance plan of Desjardins Financial Security (DSF)
As UQAM does not recognize any medical insurance purchased abroad, student participation fees for the DSF mandatory group insurance plan will be billed at the time of registration. In 2020-2021, this fee was $300 per quarter.
Finally, the exchange student must be registered for his courses to benefit from the coverage of the Compulsory Collective Insurance Scheme. The cancellation of classes automatically results in the cancellation of all medical coverage.

Accommodation
UQAM’s student life services offer exchange students tools to find permanent or temporary accommodation (upon their arrival in Montreal).
Two university residences are located on the UQAM campus. To reserve a room, which should be done as soon as possible, the student must first have received from UQAM the letter confirming his admission. Then that he can contact directly the direction of the university residences at the address:
https://www.residences-uqam.qc.ca/
As the leases are signed for the period from August 15 to May 14, university residences are generally reserved for students looking for accommodation for two semesters.
Note that UQAM has residences on campus, but places are limited. Additional services are also offered off campus.
